What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of natural healing, which was made accessible to others through the life work of Dr Mikao Usui in the 1920s. It is a wonderfully gentle, yet powerful and safe system of healing where Reiki is passed through the hands of the practitioner to the recipient during a treatment session.
Although it has no literal translation, it is well accepted that the Kanji characters that make up the word Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) mean Universal Life Force Energy.
Reiki is said to be an intelligent energy which connects to the recipient as a whole by treating the person on all levels. As the energy passes through the body it helps to promote good health and well-being throughout the mind, body and spirit, by elevating the body's own natural healing abilities.
Reiki is not a system of religious beliefs and follows no doctrines, rather, it is a spiritual practice, which serves to act in the ‘highest good’ of the recipient. It does, however, offer principles for those working with Reiki to follow.
